One month well baby, and a graduate!

Evan is five weeks old today. Here are the latest stats from his one month well baby visit last week:

Weight: 11 pounds, 6.5 oz (90th percentile)
Height: 23 inches (90th percentile)
Head Circumference: 39.5 cm (75th percentile)

Obviously, he continues to grow and grow. His hair however, is now doing the opposite, lol! He is super strong, and is already lifting his head on his own now and then. We are still having some trouble getting our naps worked into the daytime schedule, but I can't complain because he is a dream of a night sleeper. :-) And, just recently he's started to become much more alert and curious about his environment. Yesterday I took his "play gym" out of the closet and I think it will be a great source of entertainment for us in the next few weeks and months.

In other Scott family news, congratulations to my husband who is completely, finally and officially GRADUATED! All I can say is that we are so thankful and beyond excited to close this chapter in our lives.

We had a great family afternoon out to celebrate the occasion, with McAllisters in North Hills for dinner and an extra special fondue dessert from the Melting Pot. Congrats grad!

5 days of rain, a 4 week update & 1 pup's new look

This past week has been blustery indeed! The abundance of grey, cloudy and spitting skies have kept us indoors and has seriously put a dent in my idea for establishing daily stroller walks and going out on everyday errands. Rain or shine, Evan and i have kept ourselves busy indoors over the past week as we both get used to a new routine. For him-establishing regular, consistent eating times, striving for a solid(and enjoyable!) wake time and learning the skill of sleep. For me-fitting getting dressed and folding the laundry into Evan's above routine haha.

Here are some pics of the past week (before the attack of cradle cap and the new "Elmer Fudd" do mind you):
"Mommy's Little Man"
And I'd be remiss if I didn't include a picture of our furry firstborn with his new summer cut, blue bows and all.

Evan is doing great and is 4 weeks old already. If he could talk, I think he would say that his favorite things are eating, being cuddled, riding in the car, listening to daddy play the piano and sleeping through the night. On the other hand, he does not enjoy getting dressed, feeling gassy, spitting up, the hiccups(I'm suspecting a refluxy trend here) and oh yes-sleeping during the day. Daytime naps, and the order therin, is probably the most challenging part of sticking to the "eat-wake-sleep" babywise routine, but it's a work in progress. Thankfully, His mercies are new every morning-and everyday offers us another good try! While I am soaking up every minute of this newborn stage, I have to admit I'm really looking forward to the comfort, confidence and consistency a few months will bring.

Saturday at the Museum

In honor of Evan's one month birthday(can you believe it?!), we took a family outing to the newly renovated NC art museum. Being housebound for almost 4 weeks has left mama itching for some fresh air, sunshine and adult sophistication. ;-) Thankfully, there was a brief break in the clouds for our trip and the weather was just right for walking around the museum grounds and through the Rodin sculpture garden. The museum has improved leaps and bounds from the time we last visited, and Chris and I really enjoyed it's new clean, colorful and modern makeover. After the "Night at the Museum" movie series, I giggle to myself thinking what kind of midnight this museum would come alive to with it's great(and somewhat sporadic?) diversity of artists, periods and peices. In any case, we enjoyed our fun "day" at the museum, and hope to go back soon for some special upcoming exhibits.

Snickerdoodle-do

Hooray, my first kitchen-aid concoction was a success! I made Snickerdoodle cookies using this recipe, taken from the "Smitten Kitten" blog & Martha Stewart. They were wonderfully yummy bites of cinnamon deliciousness, and met with rave reviews from the hubby. :-) Tried & true, this sugary sweet cookie recipe is most definitely one for the books!

Kitchenaid come true

Welcome to my kitchen Miss Cornflower blue kitchenaid!

Since the day I said "I do," I've been dreaming of a kitchenaid stand mixer to crown my kitchen complete. At a steal of a deal, my patience paid off, and I can't imagine a better first mother's day gift. It's just beautiful and I can't wait to start using it for my family. Recipes anyone? I think our first spin will be homemade french bread, and I see mounds of buttercream in the future. :-)
Remember that deal I mentioned? Start with a super special, store specific Mothers Day sale, minus a Macy's gift card we've held onto since Christmas plus some change in store credit....and the grand total for my new 5 qt. Kitchenaid Artisan came to-drumroll please-$37.50!!!! I'm beside myself with disbelief at this amazing deal, and so thankful for my perfect Mother's Day mixer.

2 Week Well Baby!

Evan had his 2 week well baby visit yesterday and he is growing like a weed! He is up from his birth weight of 9.13 to an even bigger 10.7 pounds! He measured 22 and a quarter inch long and was placed in the 90th percentile for both weight and height, and the 75th percentile for head circumference. Overall, he got an A+ for health & growth and looks to be developing right on track. And, he was so good for the pediatrician!

Our big boy continues to be very well natured and a great baby. He's quite the sleepy head (using his time wisely to grow says the ped.) and is a happy, curious little one when he's awake-except of course when he's gassy, or getting dressed. What can I say he is very modest, haha! He eats like a champ and has started to smile in his sleep. If you asked him what his favorite activities were, I'm pretty sure he would say listening to daddy play the piano, snuggling with mommy, and watching Regis & Kelly in his bouncer. :-)
Mommy is doing well but having a harder time with this C-section recovery than I would like. I was just starting to feel like myself again when we had quite the setback with an unexpected infection at the incision site. A visit to the ER, 2 different antibiotic prescriptions, a new pain medicine, a follow up OB visit and puddles of Hydrogen Peroxide later, I am back on the road to recovery once again. While I'm not happy about being on antibiotics, we are hopeful and optimistic that this infection will work itself out over the next week or so and then we can put this whole thing behind us! I just have to keep reminding myself that this recovery is only for a short season, and my little guy is worth every single second of it.

My 1st Mother's Day!

If you told me I'd be a mom for Mother's Day this time last year, I would have been beside myself with a good mix of excitement and disbelief. Today, I'm Evan's mommy on my very first Mother's day and am I'm struck with an amazing sense of awe, excitement, and still-disbelief. I can't believe I get to wake up to this little man every morning. I can hardly wrap my fingers and heart around the fact that he is completely dependent on me to meet his every need, and that Chris and I have been entrusted with such an awesome blessing and responsibility in raising this little one. I can't imagine our family without him, and could have never fathomed the great heights of a mother's love. Evan-I thank God for you everyday, and am overflowing with joy and pride to be your mommy. Your cute button nose, chubby cheeks and sweet face are indelibly written in my mind and on my heart. I hope and pray for God to do a great work in your life, and can't wait to see the plans he knit you together with unravel before our eyes.

Happy Mother's day to all the mom's out there!

A Few Firsts

Evan is one week old now and is such a sweet, good natured babe. Chris and I are doing wonderful and can't imagine a better baby-of course we may be a tad partial. :-) Our little guy is a great eater & sound sleeper, and is falling into a nice routine already. Aside from one hard night, baby E has amazed us by sleeping sweetly through the night-we simply set the alarm for his feedings and wake him up to eat, then right back to bed and sleep. Hopefully he'll keep it up!

Evan has had a handful of fun visitors over this past week, and Chris and I have been spoiled by kindness of friends, family, and especially our church, who is faithfully providing us with meals for Evan's first two weeks. I'm feeling better and better everyday and look forward to feeling 100% again.

In other Scott family headlines, we got Piper back from my parents yesterday and are so happy to report that he has been just wonderful with Evan! Thankfully, he has been so sweet and gentle around baby E, and likes to lay down right beside him. He seems to have easily accepted him as part of our family "pack" and it looks like they're going to be great friends!

Here are a few "firsts" over the past week:

First time in the carrier with daddy First visit to the pediatricians-and he did so well! For Chris & I, the first time filling in our own names under "mother" and "father" instead of our parents.
First time in the bouncer & stroller

First family walk!
