A Birthday Bookshelf

This is my new cranberry colored bookshelf...
perfectly purposed for kitchen cookbooks.

As I said before, I received a few cookbooks for my birthday, and was unfortunately running out of places to put them. I had seen this bookshelf at World Market(on sale!) a few weeks ago and immediately pictured it in our kitchen. While I celebrated my birthday on Sat w/ my family in Goldsboro, Chris held back this special present for my actual birthday on Wednesday. Needless to say, I love it and am so excited to continue stocking these shelves in the years to come.

Sidenote: Those are my birthday flowers on the top shelf-I told Chris that they looked so good there he'd have to keep em' comin! Fresh flowers once a week I think...haha now I'm dreaming!

If these walls could talk...

...they'd say "We love our new curtains!!"

Party Time!

This past weekend was a whirlwind and went by way to fast! On Saturday morning, just after Chris finished some schoolwork, we packed up the car and headed to Goldsberry for a joint birthday celebration, the special guests being my mom and myself of course! We had a wonderful birthday dinner and shared some yummy cake over family, presents, and Martha Stewart inspired pink décor. :) I absolutely loved my gifts and can’t wait to put them to good use in the kitchen; without a doubt, the definite theme this year was cookbooks and kitchen utensils. I am so excited to see my kitchen library grow and can’t wait bring some of these recipes to life! No doubt Chris is excited to reap the benefits as well;) Reminds me of this time last year...Another Happy Birthday for Mom & Me :)
After a wonderful commissioning service for Lisa on Sunday morning at church, we were able to get some much needed R&R in Goldsboro before heading back to Wilson for Lisa’s going way party. Our whole church is really going to miss her but we are so excited to hear of her upcoming adventures in Russia. It was a great send off- full of fun, food and fellowship. Speaking of food, I premiered my first “cool lime cheesecake” there and I’m told it was a success! I’m not personally a fan of cheesecake, but I did enjoy making it and am glad to add it to my growing dessert repertoire. What’s next you ask? In a word-Pie. :)
Piper had a blast and was completely exhausted by the time we came home -thank goodness for tired puppies! He had so much fun playing with my parent’s pups and even enjoyed a play date with some other doggies on Sunday night while we were at the going away soiree.

I can’t believe the weekend has come and gone and the busy week ahead is knocking at our door already…Happy Monday!

Happy Anniversary Honey!

That's right-it's been two years now since we tied the knot. I was looking for the perfect picture for this post, and happened upon this barnyard beauty from our engagement shoot. It's only been two years, but I hardly recognize this couple below! Somewhere along the way time has taken us captive and slowly transformed our thoughts, simplified our styles, taught us the responsibilities of home ownership, molded our marriage, even changed our hair. It makes me wonder what our life will look like in another two years-I'd love to see hot freshly baked bread out of the oven, a well trained puppy with a big yard to play in, mom jeans, lol.

In any case, I am so glad to celebrate these past two years together and look forward to year three. For the time being, I'm thankful to know and happily recognize the girl in this picture, and think that she's got something pretty special going on. God has been good to us :)

Lately...

I have found myself in a blogging rut. This summer has given us some big(and good!) changes, and I suppose I'm still acclimating to the new climate. In attempt to get with the forecast, here are some highlights and current happenings in the Scott household to get this blog up to date.

This week marked my first full week at my new job with GlaxoSmithKline, and the end of Chris' first month with a new job at our local Kia dealership. With two new jobs in tow, we are both navigating new and scary-ahem-exciting waters. No doubt more to come on adventures in job searching and joys and challenges of starting a new job.

In honor of Independence day we went to downtown Wake Forest to see fireworks at the local high school Friday night and then on Saturday were able to see them from our house. I love fireworks, and look forward to seeing them every year! Here we are in patriotic style:In other totally unrelated news, Piper has fully lived up to his "Dennis the Menace" nickname over these past few weeks and has been playing my patience like Chris plays his guitar! In just one instance, he was literally caught red-handed after having a hay day with my food coloring. Yep, his name is Mud.

This past weekend was full of fun in the sun. My mom and I had a great time shopping around Raleigh on Saturday and then on Sunday our church held it's annual picnic-rain free! It was a wonderful time of fellowship and yummy treats, and really cool for me to see how much our church has changed since last year. We've grown in so many ways-babies are bigger, once toddlers no longer toddling, new faces and families...Speaking of changes and our church, I also enjoyed a wonderful women's fellowship last week in honor of our dear friend Lisa who will be leaving Wilson to fulfill the great commandment in Russia. I am so proud of her and thankful for the excellent and godly example she's been to me and our church family. I will miss her dearly but am so looking forward to hearing of her adventures in Russia as God unravels His great work in her life. :)

Now that we've found a good grove and are somewhat settled into our new work routines, I can't wait to catch up on some of my favorite blogs and get back to blogging more myself :) In all seasons, we are so thankful for a great God who provides just what we need and graciously works towards our good and growth in all things.
