It's time to grab those coupons and go! In the circus of moving, I haven't yet had time to organize and hit up this sale, but am super excited to go grocery shopping this week(especially now that Harris Teeter is in my backyard!). If you hadn't noticed by now, I think it's safe to come out of the closet and say that I am a couponer! Call me frugal if you will, but I am so proud to cut coupons and make the best of our family's resources. Saving money and finding great deals on groceries takes time, organization, and prudent meal planning. The rewards? Priceless! Happy budget, healthy tummy...and, it's fun to boot. Call me a nerd, but I really look forward to cutting and organizing coupons from the Sunday newspaper. Life on the wild side...haha!
While the following is no secret by any stretch, come in close and listen to my two favorite couponing resources. Ready? First is the "Southern Savers" website and secondly, WRAL's "Smart Shopper" blog by Faye Prosser. If you can snatch a few extra minutes in the day, they would be very well spent taking a look at those sites!
Here are a few tips from Faye on this weeks Harris Teeter's super double coupons:
Store Policy Reminder:
*HT will Super Double coupons worth up to $1.98 face value. A $1.50 coupon will double to $3.00. A $1.00 coupon will double to $2.00. A $2.00 coupon will not double at all and will only be taken at face value ($2.00).
*HT will super double/double up to 20 coupons per day. Period. End of story. Spouse's cards registered with the same address are linked because the policy is 20 per household, per day.
* HT policy is to double up to 3 identical coupons (as long as you buy the product required for each coupon, of course). So, if you have five $1.00 coupons for a product, the policy is to only super double the first three.
* Rainchecks can be written for a limit of three unless otherwise stated in the ad. Make sure you get rainchecks for items out of stock and use the rainchecks at the next promotion since they don't expire!
*BOGO's pro-rated.

Helpful Hints from "Good Housekeeping"
Every month I am so excited to receive my new "Good Housekeeping" magazine in the mail. There are always several little household tips and tricks to take away-and actually use! Last month I received a very handy(and simple) chart for the laundry detailing the different kinds of stains and how to get rid of them. I was initially planning on tacking it above the washer and dryer, but I'm ashamed to report that I'm not quite sure where it is at the moment-and even sadder is that it has very likely made its escape from our home via the recycling bin :/
So in an effort to better document and save these awesome household hints, recipes, book recommendations, ect, I've decided to blog about them. :-)

Quotable quote: "Home is where one starts from." -T.S. Elliot
- Ever get those annoying little scratches on your finished wood furniture? Coffee tables, dressers, ect...turns out there's a very natural and budget friendly way of salvaging them-nuts! Fresh walnuts or Brazil nuts have natural oils that can darken the wood to hide scratches. Simply crak the nut open, then rub the meat over the scratch in the direction of the grain of the wood. Buff w/ soft, clean cloth, repeat as necessary.
- Speaking of wood woes, I also enjoyed this tip on how to undo water damage on a wood surface with just a clean towel and iron (not that this is necessary for me, we always use coasters in the Scott household..haha). Place the towel on top of the stain, then with low-medium heat press with iron for several seconds. The gentle heat will warm the wood finish enough to release the moisture into the towel. Lift towel to check results, and repeat if necessary.
- Chocolate is good for you (In moderation of course)! Studies show that just a little bit of the good stuff each day can lower your blood pressure, lessen bad cholesterol, inhibit the formation of blood clots and reduce stress hormones(duh!).
- Kale is apparently "the new pink" of vegetables. Wonder where to sneak that one in...
- Last but not least...For those stinky sponges-they should be washed in cold soapy water, not hot as that can encourage the spread of bacteria-and also dried vertically so as to more evenly air out and avoid mildewing.

Adventures in Tote Making
Alas my latest sewing endeavour-the simple tote. As I am still climbing the learning curve of sewing, this very easy project was met with much trial and error. Thankfully, with a little perseverance and some serious pep talking, I finished my project with success. Whew! And to think, I was starting to worry... The second time around was much much easier than the first, and I have to say the third time was a charm. This isn't the greatest picture in that you can't see the little details-i.e the folded over/top stitched top and my mad ribbon skills- but that may be a good thing, lol. It's true, practice does make better :) I'm so excited to start putting my budding sewing skills to good use for gift giving, these totes are just the perfect Christmas/Birthday present(or at least a fun and stylish wrapping for them)!
And of course, Piper(camera hog extraordinaire) had to get in on the picture! What a cutie :)

Thank's Petunia!

Don't throw away your pennies! Almost a year ago, I bought a cute piggie bank whom Chris and I named "Petunia." While we were not always faithful to feed Petunia our change, we did manage to fill here up with lots of unwanted pennies and random pocketfuls of change. Tonight, we took here to the local Coinstar at Lowes Food to see our months of pennies and patient saving turn to cash. I wasn't expecting too much, and was pleasantly surprised to reap $36.91 from our piggy bank's belly!! While this may not seem like a huge feat, I was very excited about it. We are also on the "keep the change" program with Bank of America, and love to see our excess change turn into savings. I encourage you to save those unwanted pennies, they may pay off one day...For now, we decided to put our small reward in the "Piper Fund." God willing, we will be adding a new addition to our family in the next few months...a puppy named Piper:)
